Remove Foul Odors from Your Home

When you walk past the bathroom and have an unpleasant smell, it can be a terrible experience. Whether this stench is man-made or a result of poor maintenance, this odor should not be there. Luckily there are a handful of things you can do to remove these smells. Foul odors and bathrooms can sometimes go hand-in-hand, but they don’t have to.

How to Remove Foul Odors

BATHROOM VENTILATION

Almost every bathroom should have a small exhaust fan installed to help ventilate. By using this fan, you can help remove foul odors from the bathroom as well as moisture. Excessive moisture from hot showers can cause mold and mildew to grow.

AIR FRESHENERS

Air fresheners don’t actually remove odors; however, they do a great job at masking them. If you must use an air freshener, try opting for a homemade variety instead of a chemical one. Two cups of water, a tablespoon of white vinegar, a teaspoon of baking soda, and 10 to 20 drops of any essential oil you’d like.

DESICCANTS

These can be used to absorb moisture in your bathroom. They’re dry material that comes in the form of silica gel, or even plants. Plants like ferns and lily do a great job at removing foul odors from bathrooms.

In some cases, foul odors are a sign that your bathroom needs a good cleaning. Failing to clean your toilet tank regularly can cause it to smell like urine. Open the tank and pour in some white vinegar and then scrub! Once finished flushing the toilet. You may need to repeat this once or twice. Always keep an eye out for mold. If you see any black specks on the ceiling or green debris around pipes and fixtures, this is an obvious sign of mild. Some not so obvious signs are itchy eyes, runny nose, wheezing, rashes and more. Not only is mold unsightly to see and smell, but it can negatively impact your health.
